Those hoping for something like the 1974 comedy Blazing Saddles will be sorely disappointed. It’s not that the “Family Guy” creator can’t be funny in the flesh, but even MacFarlane admits that he wasn’t the first choice to play Albert, as he recently told the “Today” show that Paul Rudd was up for the lead, but turned it down. It’s a major loss to his character, as Albert’s few bright moments are overshadowed by long streches of uninteresting banter.

Watch A Million Ways to Die in the West Online While the film boasts a star-studded supporting cast, MacFarlane falters as the film’s heroic lead, lacking the on-screen seriousness of a bonafide movie star. Things get spiced up when Albert eventually falls for the gun-slinging new-girl-town, Anna (Charlize Theron), who is secretly married to a fearsome outlaw, Clinch Leatherwood (Liam Neeson). If living in the dangerous Old West wasn’t bad enough, MacFarlane’s character gets dumped by his girlfriend Louise (Amanda Seyfried) who’s become smitten with the wealthy and mustached Foy (Neil Patrick Harris).

There’s one role MacFarlane hasn’t yet mastered, though: being a leading man. Watch A Million Ways to Die in the West Online There's little doubt that Seth McFarlane is one of the hardest working guys in Hollywood, creating a number of television shows two of which (Family Guy and American Dad) have survived to become long running hits and feature him voicing multiple characters, popping up as hosts of the Oscars, and now helming major motion pictures such as Ted in 2012 and now A Million Ways to Die in the West.
